What Turbolearn AI does well
Turbolearn’s trick is the recording: leave it running through a lecture and it hands you notes, then flashcards and a quiz from the same session. It also takes PDFs and video links. For a student whose problem is that the lecture went by too fast, that is exactly the right product, and it is quick.
It has a free tier, paid plans for heavier use, and apps for the phone as well as the web.
Where MugUp differs
MugUp starts where Turbolearn ends. It does not record anything — it reads PDF, text and Markdown and the notes you type — and what it does with them is deeper: four game types, a grounding dial that keeps every question inside the material by default and says when it runs out, explanations on a wrong answer, and a scheduler that brings each question back across every subject you have.
And the studying sits inside a day. Reading, writing and speaking are timed habits on the same streak, a focus timer runs the sessions, and a Life Card rates the last 28 days. Nothing is for sale, there are no ads, and the free plan is free forever.

Questions
Can MugUp record a lecture?
No. There is no recording, transcription or video input. MugUp reads PDF, plain text and Markdown files and the notes you type on a topic’s Notes tab, and builds the games from those. A recording tool that gives you text is a fine front end to it.
Does MugUp write notes from my files?
No — it writes questions. The Notes tab is yours: type the lecture up as it happens, it saves as you go, and “Save & index” turns the note into material the generator can build from. The AI reads your notes; it does not write them.
How does MugUp keep questions inside my material?
The grounding dial, strict by default: every question comes from your files and notes and nothing is invented. It works through the material section by section, names the section it is going to next, and if the material supports fewer questions than you asked for it says so rather than padding.
Is MugUp free?
Free forever with no ads: three new games a day, three projects, all four game types, Anki import, the daily puzzles, and every habit. Pro removes the generation limits and adds file upload, notes and the daily Review workout.
