What Quizlet does well
Quizlet is where a generation of students learned to make flashcards, and its library is vast: whatever you are studying, someone has probably made a set for it. The study modes — flashcards, Learn, Test and Match — are polished, Quizlet Live turns a set into a classroom game, and its AI tools can turn pasted notes into a set.
It is everywhere: web, iOS and Android, with a brand teachers already trust. If your class is on Quizlet, the sets you need are already there.
Where MugUp differs
A study set is a list of terms and definitions, and every Quizlet mode is a different way of drilling that list. MugUp starts a step earlier: give it a topic, your lecture notes or a PDF, and it writes the questions — multiple choice with real distractors, fill in the blanks with alternatives, flashcards, and pair-match boards — and then schedules them across everything you are learning, not one set at a time.
The free plan has no ads and no feed. And the streak is not a study streak: it counts the ten minutes you read, the page you wrote and the answer you spoke out loud, on the same Life Card as your reviews. Quizlet is a study tool; MugUp is the day around it.
Feature by feature
Builds the study material for you
MugUp: Type a topic or upload notes and get multiple choice, fill in the blanks, flashcards and pair match in seconds.
Quizlet: Sets are user-made. AI tools can turn pasted notes into a set.
Spaced repetition across everything you study
MugUp: Every card and question is scheduled; Pro adds a daily Review workout across your whole library.
Quizlet: Learn mode adapts within a set. No scheduler across your whole library.
Your own notes and PDFs as the source
MugUp: On Pro: type lecture notes or upload PDF, text and Markdown. No audio, video, slides or scanned pages.
Quizlet: Paste notes and let the AI make a set; no grounded question generation from a PDF.
A control over how far the AI may stray from your files
MugUp: A three-position dial, strict by default: every question from your material, nothing invented — and it says when the material ran out.
Quizlet: The AI makes a set from pasted notes; there is no setting for how far it may stray.
Imports Anki decks
MugUp: Upload an .apkg on the free plan; scheduling comes across if the export included it.
Quizlet: Imports pasted text, not .apkg files.
Reading, writing and speaking as timed habits

Questions
Is MugUp just Quizlet with AI?
The generator is the first difference: MugUp writes multiple choice with plausible wrong answers, fill in the blanks, flashcards and pair-match boards from a topic or your own material, and schedules them by spaced repetition across everything you study. The second is what surrounds it — reading, writing and speaking habits, a focus timer, a streak that counts any of them, and a Life Card — none of which a study-set app sets out to do.
Can I bring my Quizlet sets to MugUp?
Not directly — there is no Quizlet importer. If you can get a set into Anki (Quizlet exports to text and Anki imports it), MugUp imports the .apkg on the free plan. Or describe the topic and let MugUp build the games from scratch.
Does MugUp have a classroom mode like Quizlet Live?
Not a teacher-run one. What it has is a live 1v1: send a friend a link and you both race the same questions in the same order. And on Discord, a whole server works through a deck together — twelve questions a day, a leaderboard, and races between whoever is around.
Does the free plan have ads?
No. MugUp has no ads on any plan and no feed. The free plan is free forever; Pro removes the generation limits and adds the Review workout, notes and file upload.
