What StudyFetch does well
StudyFetch is a study suite built around an AI tutor: upload lecture slides, PDFs, notes or a recording and it makes flashcards, quizzes and notes from them, then lets you ask the tutor about any of it. The tutor is the centre of the product and it is what people pay for — the sense of having someone to explain the material back to you.
It takes recorded lectures, which MugUp does not, and it is on the web and on phones.
Where MugUp differs
MugUp is built on producing answers rather than receiving explanations. The generator writes the questions from your material — strictly, by default, and it says when the material runs out — and then the scheduler decides when each comes back. An explanation is a press away when you get one wrong, and that is where the AI stays: behind the question, not in front of it.
The other difference is the day around the studying. Reading, writing, speaking and a focus timer are tiles on the same day as your reviews, one streak counts any of them, and a Life Card rates the last 28 days. The free plan has no ads, coins are earned only, and there is a real free tier rather than a trial.

A control over how far the AI may stray from your files

Questions
Does MugUp have an AI tutor?
Not a chat. The AI in MugUp writes the games from your material, explains an answer when you ask why it is right, writes speaking prompts about your subject, and on Pro reads your speaking transcript and names one thing to change. It never leads: you answer first, and the explanation is behind the question.
Can I upload lecture recordings?
No. MugUp reads PDF, plain text and Markdown, and typed notes — no audio, no video, no slides, no scanned pages. If your source is a recording, a tool that transcribes it can hand you text that MugUp will build games from.
Is there a free plan?
Yes, free forever: three new games a day across three projects, all four game types, Anki import, the daily puzzles, and every habit. File upload, typed notes and the daily Review workout are Pro. No credit card to start and no ads on any plan.
Does MugUp explain wrong answers?
Yes. Ask why an answer is right and it explains — ten a day on the free plan, unlimited on Pro. On Pro the explanation can draw on your own uploaded material.
