What Pomofocus does well
Pomofocus does one thing cleanly: a Pomodoro timer in the browser, with the classic lengths, a task list where you estimate how many pomodoros each task will take, and a page that changes colour with the phase. It works without an account, and a paid tier adds reports and templates.
It is fast, it is simple, and for a lot of people it is the whole answer.
Where MugUp differs
MugUp’s timer is also free and needs no account, and it makes different choices: the countdown fills the screen over a living night scene — rain, ocean or a thunderstorm — with ambient sound you can leave running, a Plan panel for the session, and breaks you name before they start, from six real options. The next phase waits for you rather than starting on its own.
The larger difference is that the timer is one feature of a product rather than the product. With a free account the same clock sits in the navigation bar on every page, a break can play a video from a feed you built, and the day counts toward a streak and a Life Card alongside reading, writing, speaking and the study games. Pomofocus is a better answer to “I want a timer and nothing else.”

Questions
Is MugUp’s Pomodoro timer free without an account?
Yes. The full-screen timer at mugup.app/pomodoro works with no account: all three scenes, the ambient sound, the Plan checklist, the settings and the breaks. Everything is kept in your browser. An account adds the timer in the navigation bar on every page, break videos from your own feed, and a streak the sessions count toward.
Can I change the session lengths?
Yes. Focus from 1 to 120 minutes, breaks from 1 to 60, and the long break after 2 to 8 sessions, plus the chime that ends a phase. The defaults are the classic 25, 5 and 15 with a long break every four sessions.
Does MugUp have a task list like Pomofocus?
The Plan panel: a short checklist for the session you are about to start, ticked off as you go. It does not estimate work in pomodoros or produce reports — it is for writing down what this session is for, which is the thing that makes the break end on time.
What is an intentional break?
Before a break starts you pick what it is for — move, watch something productive, a quick chat, pray or meditate, journal, or something else — and write down the one thing you will do. If you watch a video on a break with an account, the player closes itself when the break ends and keeps your place for next time.
